Shortly before midnight on Monday the government shutdown
was decided. This is the first shut down within 17 years. The Government
officials told agencies to begin executing plans for a shutdown. This happened
because Congress failed to reach an agreement on a short-term funding measure
by a 12:01 a.m. Office of Management and Budget director Sylvia Burwell said there
was no "clear indication" that Congress would reach an agreement by
the deadline. "Agencies should now execute plans for an orderly shutdown
due to the absence of appropriations. We urge Congress to act quickly to pass a
Continuing Resolution to provide a short-term bridge that ensures sufficient
time to pass a budget for the remainder of the fiscal year, and to restore the
operation of critical public services and programs that will be impacted by a
lapse in appropriations." Sylvia had said. Tens of thousands of federal
workers is to be expected to be placed on furlough. Reid says “It now appear
that the Government isn’t going to do anything about the potential shutdown.” He also says this “It is embarrassing that
the same people elected to represent this country is representing the tea
party.” The majority of the representative house is following one hundred
percent of the way. National places are shut down as well because congress couldn’t
come to an agreement of the spending budget. “This is an unnecessary blow,
towards America.” Reid believes. “Everyone has it in their power to avoid the
shutdown.” If they do, why won’t they just work together? Obama wants to make
an agreement including Obamacare, but no one wants to or will mean with the
house while they are suggesting any health care agreement. The majority of
people will be affected by this shut down and both sides are blaming the other
for the shutdown. It could be days till they come to a resolution, but can all
this really be repaired?
